Hat and Sandals or Not

Postby funtobenude » Fri 30 Jul 10 22:12

Its weird, but I have been a nudist for most of my life, but going to nudist resorts for the past ten years or so. It seems that recently (the past year) I don't really feel completely naked if I am wearing sandals or a hat. It seems I only feel naked if I have nothing on at all. That can be a problem here in Florida. I was at Cypress Cove today and the asphalt was really hot! I had to run across any streets I had to cross. The pool deck was even hot (it was 96 degrees out). Kinda burned my feet a little.

Don't get me wrong, though. I had a GREAT time at the resort today. There were about 250 people there and some families too. Met a family from Utah and it was the kids first nudist resort experience. The boy was a teen and took to nudism right away. There were other families with children and lots of people of all ages. I had some really great conversations in the pool and everyone was really friendly.

But was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same feeling of not being really nude if you have on a hat or sandals?

When I go nude out on my land I normally wear sandals to protect my feet. Sometimes I wear a hat to keep sweat out of my eyes. But, when I can I do like to go bare footed, but it isn't necessary to feeling nude. If I need foot protection to enjoy my nude time, that is better than getting a foot injury.

"Nude" just means barefoot all over.

If I am at a place where I don't have to wear shoes I don't. I wear a hat frequently to protect the bald spot from getting any more burned than it already is.

I have noticed the same thing. I generally wear sandals outside since my feet are too tender for gravel and other hazards to the feet. However, one day I went out to my car for something and didn't bother putting on my sandals and noticed that for once I actually felt NAKED and not just nude. :-D

Funny to be reading this now. I was thinking about creating a similar posting. I was thinking the same thing the other day. When I walk around the house barefooted versus with slippers or loafers, I feel "more" naked if that makes any sense.

The only thing I refuse to remove is my wedding ring. I would feel more than "nude" (arowm) without my ring. I would feel "naked" (eyrom - exposed). I would hope that my ring does not preclude me from being considered "nude".

As for the need for hat and sandals or shoes, I NEVER wear hats. I cannot stand what they do to my hair or the feel of something on my head. I realize that some people's head, ears, nose and face are sensitive to excessive sunlight and so, it is only prudent to wear something to protect them OTHER than sunscreen, which many reports claim actually INCREASES the probability of deadly cancers.

However, the need for sandals or shoes may be something that we can train our bodies not to need. The soles of our feet are AMAZING in their design in that they can actually build up pads that are almost as tough and resiliant as shoe leather. Look at the feet of natives those who go barefoot ALL the time. However, it won't likely happen over night nor if you only go barefoot on weekends. Until them, we need to remember that naturists are not stupid. We are practical. So when it is cold, we put on clothes. When the ground is rough or hot, we put on shoes.

I have started taking my ring off when I am swimming because it needs to be resized and I don't want to loose it.

Asphalt is not part of the natural world. I protect my feet when I have to walk on hot surfaces in the summer. But otherwise I prefer for my bare feet to be in contact with the earth.
When I do off-trail walking, there are areas with abundant thorns. I go slowly, removing the obstacles such as vines and branches as my feet cautiously test the path I intend to take. From then on, I rarely step on a thorn on my off-trail rambles for the rest of the warm season. I learn to watch for where yellow jackets build their nest, watch for wasps and detour around them. Even with clothes on, you should be wary of snakes and stinging insects. Nudity just forces you to be even more vigilant, less like a tame human, more woods-wise like the rest of God's wild creatures.

In the woods I don't need a hat, but I wear one when I am out in full sun all day. I don't have as much pigment as the original humans probably had. The atmosphere may offer less protection than it did before the time of Noah. I still prefer doing without a hat and it comes off when conditions allow.

I got those feelings a year or so ago. Just felt so good to be totally bare. But then I got an infection in my foot. Doctors gave me antibiotic but also Lamosil orally for 2 or 3 months. The Lamosil cleared up the cracks in my skin where the infection probably came in but also cleared up my nasty toenails. So, now I wear sandals or Crocs or real shoes and socks. It's usually Crocs for work in the garden and to walk across hot pavement, etc.

If I'm in one position for long periods, I'll put on something to protect what is topside exposed to the sun. For instance, when I used to sail nude in Singapore, I put sun screen on the back of my neck. Otherwise, it got rather sensitive after sun exposure. Long periods in the garden hunkered over call for a long sleeve shirt just to protect the top part of my shoulders. Need the same long sleeved shirt picking raspberries to keep my arms from getting scratched up.

Clothing is for protection and warmth. It's only when I go away from the house do I have to wear some for appearance, too.

I do wear sandalls at the resort, but prefer to have nothing on at all. I do not like wearing socks as socks are actually clothes.
