vascetomy issues

Postby feeknoxman » Tue 27 Jul 10 23:47

Hi Gents,
Some time ago I had a vascetomy. Durning the surgery, I suffered some vascular damage which left me with a new form of birth control --impotence! Has anyone else experience, slow to no erections since surgery? My doctor said it was a common side affect, but I have never heard of anyone else with this issue. Wondering if he was trying to avoid a lawsuit. He said me vas duc was short and damage could have been caused in that area. Just wanting to see if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks.

Can't say I have until the last few years, since hitting 50+. I would be asking for a consult with another Dr. and ask them about it.

I had it done years ago and it never interfered with erection. I think you need a secon opionion. It's a simple procedure if done by someone who does them regularily. I knew a guy who got one from a doc that didn't do them much and he had some difficulties.

You need a 2nd opinion. Sounds like something psychological involved. I had one about 38 years ago and never had any problems whatsoever with it.

I have never had any troubles although I am only 43 (if anything it improved things) , but before I had the procedure done about 4+ yrs ago I looked at what side effects there could be & impotence was not one of them!

It has been right at 30 years since mine and that has never been an issue. Not being a DR., there may be an extremely rare medical issue, but it really doesn't make any sense.

The Vas ducts are the only thing which are supposed to be cut and stitched. Anything else is operator error. There always could be a psyc. effect but usually that has the opposite effect. I would think a little personal research, a second opinion and more in depth discussion with your wife to see if she has noticed any changes in you on the phychological level.

Good luck

33 years and counting since I had mine done. Have never had a problem with 'any' side effects, then or now. I'm not a big fan of doctors and pharmaceuticals, so I'm skeptical about how they try to cover up their mistakes! I'd definitely be going for a second opinion regarding the impotence issue. Hopefully another Dr. can identify the problem and fix it if necessary.

I did have a mild impotence problem a few years ago, after my wife got hurt at work, and ended up with a chronic widespread pain disorder. As it turns out I was so afraid of causing her pain, that I had difficulty performing to my 'full potential'. We've worked out those issues though and things are back to normal now. I'm 57 years old and the plumbing still works according to code.

Definitely get a second opinion, and a third and fourth one if necessary. Many times it's just a matter of finding the right doctor to get the right remedy. (Ya think this is why doctors call what they do practice?)
